Furan resins are thermosetting resins that cross-link with each other when heated and cure without the addition of a hardener. Acids play a catalytic role in the curing reaction and also reduce the temperature required for heat curing. Depending on the special needs of the construction process, catalytic curing agents can be introduced, which allow rapid cross-linking and curing at room temperature without heat. Curing crosslinking to release low molecular substances, so the volume shrinkage during curing is large, its elongation is very low, showing brittle.
Due to the curing product molecular chain link is basically hypomethyl (-CH2 a) and saturated C a C bond, there is no active functional groups, so the furan resin does not participate in the chemical reaction of the corrosive medium. The cured furan resin has outstanding alkali resistance, solvent resistance and resistance to alternating acid and alkali media, and has good corrosion resistance to inorganic acids. Furan resin also has good heat resistance, generally can be used for a long time at 120 ℃ ~ 140 ℃, in some cases can be used at 180 ℃ ~ 190 ℃. However, due to the furan ring contains a double bond, and the heterocyclic ring has a tendency to open the ring under certain conditions. Therefore, furan resins are not good at resisting oxidation and will be destroyed in oxidising nitric and concentrated sulphuric acids.
Furan resin is well miscible with many plasticisers, thermosetting resins and thermoplastic resins, so that a variety of products with different properties can be obtained.
